Orfelina Tripainao is my grandmother. She is the last Mapudungun speaker in my family. Due to health problems, she left her indigenous community and stopped speaking Mapudugun for almost 20 years due to language shame. She never taught the language to her children. When she retired, she came back to her mapu (land) and re connected with her heritage. |
After a semester teaching at a public university in the U.S. I acknowledged the lack of preparation that graduate students had to teach a foreign language. My previous work aimed at exploring the teaching beliefs of graduate instructors. My research contributed to the development of a language teaching training program that it is currently implemented to introduce graduate students to foreign language learning and teaching.
My work was presented in the XVIII International Forum for Spanish Language Teachers at the Universitat de València in the Summer of 2023. |
