Kevin Andia PhD Student of Spanish Linguistics & Language Science Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese The Pennsylvania State University
I am a Linguist & Foreign Language Educator. After completing my Bachelor of Education in Chile, I moved to The United States of America to work as a Spanish Teacher for a Public School in Saint Paul, Minnesota. My love for education led me to pursue a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics, where I began conducting experimental research. Some incidental findings from my master’s research ignited in me a genuine interest in understanding various facets of language processing and cognition. Consequently, I resolved to advance my education by pursuing a dual-title Ph.D. degree.
As a linguist, I specialize in language processing, employing a unique blend of computational and behavioral psycholinguistics methodologies. My research integrates cutting-edge techniques such as eye-tracking and ERPs with insights from linguistics to inform language representations in the brains of bilingual individuals.
My primary focus lies in highlighting the profound benefits of bilingualism, particularly within minority communities such as indigenous groups in Latin America and immigrant communities worldwide. Through my work, I aim to not only deepen our understanding of language cognition but also advocate for the empowerment and recognition of linguistic diversity.
